Rosalie Vaillancourt to hit the road in Quebec and the Maritimes to celebrate the stories that shape and inspire us. George Stroumboulopoulos, meanwhile, travels across English Canada.

MONTREAL, August 5, 2025 – MADE | NOUS is revving up the RV’s engine and launching the ‘Stories that MADE Us’ campaign. Led by comedian and TV host Rosalie Vaillancourt, the campaign celebrates the unifying and identity-affirming power of homegrown film and TV works.

Rosalie Vaillancourt.

As part of this initiative, Rosalie will meet with Francophones to ask them a simple question: What local film and television MADE you?

The hilarious MADE ambassador expressed her excitement about this creative and social adventure: “I’m extremely happy to have been chosen for the MADE campaign, because our culture’s uniqueness is something I care deeply about and that makes me proud. I already travel all over the place to share my personal stories on the stage— I can’t wait to hear what other Canadians have to share.”

A patriotic road trip

From Montreal to Orléans Island, Moncton, and beyond, Rosalie will collect heartfelt stories from people across Quebec and the Maritimes: memories of shows that captured their imagination, films that brought them comfort, and series that brought their friends and families closer together. Along the way, she’ll also meet with well-known Canadians from a range of backgrounds.

Her journey will come to a close on the Quebec City Film Festival (Festival de cinéma de la ville de Québec - FCVQ)’s red carpet, in September. There, she’ll share the stories she’s gathered with festivalgoers—stories that will resonate deeply in the heart of Quebec’s capital.

Rosalie will share highlights from her road trip through a series of YouTube videos, along with short clips (trailers, bloopers, heartwarming moments) on her and MADE | NOUS’ social media accounts. The rollout will span several months to spark inspiring and lasting conversations.

A matter of collective pride

Supported by the Canada Media Fund and Telefilm Canada, ‘The Stories that MADE Us’seeks to rekindle pride in our industry and to show how cinema, television, and digital media enrich Quebec and Canada’s cultures. The campaign will also showcase the richness of our land itself—culturally, geographically, and humanly—as well as its vastness.

“From C.R.A.Z.Y. to Jesus of Montreal, to Empathie, everyone has that one film or series that left a mark,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund. “The Stories that MADE Us’’ pays tribute to defining moments from both the big and small screens, while exploring enduring themes of collective memory and belonging. At a time when people are more eager than ever to connect through a shared identity, this campaign has the power to ignite a national conversation, and we’re beyond thrilled to have Rosalie Vaillancourt on the ground, bringing her humour, spontaneity, and authenticity to the journey.”

"Feature film has always been a powerful reflection of Canadian identity. It highlights our stories, our languages, and the richness of Canada’s cultural landscape," said Julie Roy, Executive Director and CEO of Telefilm Canada. "We are proud to support a campaign that showcases our culture and invites audiences to reflect on how these stories help define who we are."

A nationwide campaign

In English Canada, broadcasting legend George Stroumboulopoulos' road trip is well underway. Strombo is visiting cities and communities across the country to spotlight the diversity of voices, cultures, ages, identities, and landscapes that make up our country. He’ll also highlight notable Canadian figures along the way.

With two dynamic ambassadors, MADE | NOUS continues its mission to celebrate what unites us. Previous campaigns have included:

The SEEK MORE campaign (2021), celebrating cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion on our screens, featuring stars such as Simu Liu and Mélissa Bédard

The MADE Better campaign (2023), a bold billboard campaign celebrating Canadian talent making waves in Hollywood;

The MADE Here campaign (February 2025), a series of ads spotlighting talents such as Emily Hampshire, Denis Villeneuve, and Geneviève Schmidt for their outstanding contributions

This time, the brand is relying more than ever on public participation, aiming to let these human stories “travel” across the country and truly embody the spirit of a road trip.

ABOUT ROSALIE VAILLANCOURT

A 2015 graduate of the École nationale de l’humour, Rosalie Vaillancourt is a bold, multifaceted artist who first made her mark online. Her project Complètement lycée earned her the Dior Revelation Award at Canneseries and a Gémeaux Award for Best Performance in a Digital Media Series in 2022, sparking laughter across households. Her impressive performance on LOL: Qui rira le dernier? (where she won the grand prize!) and her appearances on Sortez-moi d’ici!—first as a contestant, then as co-host—helped introduce her to a wider audience. Beyond television, Rosalie is a passionate stage performer. Her first solo show, Enfant roi (2019), was warmly received, but it’s her 2024 show MILF that truly won over critics and audiences alike. With her blend of wit and vulnerability, Rosalie doesn’t hesitate to strike when the time is right—but above all, she likes it when people appreciate the intelligence behind her writing.

ABOUT MADE | NOUS

Since 2019, the MADE | NOUS initiative has put the spotlight on Canada’s world-class talent in film, TV, gaming, and digital entertainment, aiming to shift perceptions of Canadian content at home and abroad. The brand shines a spotlight on the achievements of Canadians who bring exceptional stories to life and encourages audiences to discover and celebrate their work. It’s the result of a collaborative effort between key entertainment industry players such as the Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Telefilm Canada, as well as an additional thirty—and growing—industry partners.
Toronto, September 12, 2024 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is proud to announce the launch of our 2024-2027 EDIA Strategy, titled All In: Embedding Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the audiovisual industry. This new strategy marks a pivotal step in the CMF’s ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive and accessible audiovisual industry in Canada.

Building on the successes and learnings of the CMF’s 2021-2023 Equity and Inclusion Strategy, All In was shaped by internal discussions and integral feedback from hundreds of creators across Canada. Through in-person forums in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, along with virtual sessions in English and French, storytellers helped ensure the strategy reflects the diverse experiences and needs of Canada’s audiovisual sector.

The CMF’s 2024-2027 EDIA Strategy continues our commitment to underrepresented creators and Equity-Deserving Communities*. It outlines concrete actions to foster inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring Canadian storytellers from coast to coast to coast are supported, empowered, and celebrated. This strategy will also be integral to the organization’s modernization as we adapt to historical regulatory and policy updates.

DOWNLOAD THE STRATEGY

“Embedding equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility into the infrastructure of the CMF is the central thread of this new strategy,” said Joy Loewen, VP of Growth and Inclusion, CMF. “After listening carefully to the industry, we have set goals and departmental actions that are essential to creating a sustainable, thriving audiovisual sector that truly reflects the rich diversity in our country. We aim to ensure that all creators, no matter their background or ability, have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.”

Highlights of the 2024-2027 EDIA Strategy

Expanded accessibility support across programs: The CMF is significantly increasing our accessibility services by expanding the number and specialty of service providers, boosting annual program support, and enhancing eligibility for applicants with disabilities. This ensures a more equitable application process, breaking down barriers for disabled creators and production companies to thrive.

Targeted growth and international success for Equity-Deserving companies: A new Sector Development Support program will focus on capacity building, market access, and workforce development for companies owned by Black, Indigenous, and racialized creators, as well as other Equity-Deserving Communities. The strategy aims to position these companies for long-term stability and international success, including targeted support for French-language creators in markets such as West Africa and the Caribbean.

Diverse and inclusive decision-making panels: The CMF will implement a robust revision of our Jury Recruitment and Training Policy to address unconscious bias and ensure that all project evaluation panels reflect the diversity of Canada’s population.

Data-driven accountability and enhanced reporting: Building on the success of the PERSONA-ID system, the CMF will implement improved data collection and transparency mechanisms to track diversity in all funded projects. This expanded data will guide CMF policies, enabling evidence-based decisions that promote equity, and will contribute to industry-wide accountability standards for all EDIA-related funding.

Strategic industry partnerships and enhanced inclusion initiatives: The CMF is ramping up collaborations with diverse industry organizations, festivals, and networking events to foster greater inclusion. New partnerships will be established to support delegations of market-ready producers and creators from Equity-Deserving Communities, giving them increased access to both national and international opportunities for growth and visibility.

“I want to thank Joy and the entire Growth and Inclusion team for their hard work to make this strategy a reality,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “The EDIA Strategy will be one of the pillars of the CMF’s new program model as we work hand-in-hand with Canadian Heritage to modernize our industry and ensure it is more inclusive and accessible for everyone.”

With the launch of All In, the CMF continues future-facing efforts to showcase our best storytellers here at home and around the world. Our 2024-2027 EDIA Strategy focuses on Equity-Deserving Communities. The CMF will draft a separate Indigenous Strategy that outlines how we will continue to enhance our partnership with the Indigenous Screen Office, providing support to Indigenous screen content, organizations, and companies.

Toronto, October 31, 2023 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Ontario Creates (OC) today announced the renewal of the Ontario Creates-CMF IDM Futures Forward Program, a joint initiative to fund early-stage, interactive digital media (IDM) development projects from emerging Ontario companies owned by individuals from Indigenous and equity-seeking communities.

Last year, 16 companies received funding. Projects to be developed included 11 web-series, four games and an interactive application for children.

“Receiving funding through this program was an incredibly important stepping stone in developing our sitcom project,” says producer and director Tristan Barrocks of Mid-Career Productions. “It fueled our financial resources and ignited our creative spirits, enabling us to transform our unique vision into a vibrant reality.”

“This support was instrumental in laying the groundwork needed to develop and package our pitch. These resources not only breathed life into our ideas but also allowed a BIPOC production company like ours to grow our capacity for success,” adds producer and partner Natanya Barrocks.

With a budget of $300,000 available, successful applicants to the program can receive up to $20,000 toward the ideation of a new IDM project idea such as a game, XR experience, or web series. Eligible activities include preparing project concept or pre-production materials, developing a proof of concept, production of project teasers or trailers, marketing or audience research, or hiring a mentor.

Applications will be accepted from eligible Ontario companies that have completed Ontario Creates’ Futures Forward training program in the fall of 2023 or that are majority-owned by individuals from Indigenous and equity-seeking communities.

This program has a commitment to provide one-third of its budget towards French-language projects and two-thirds towards projects from companies owned by individuals belonging to Indigenous or equity-seeking communities.

Toronto, October 26, 2023 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today announced a new pilot program designed to support the growth of mid-career Canadian digital creators making short-form video content for social media platforms. Part of our Experimental Stream, the Digital Creators Pilot Program (DCPP)’s total budget will be $500,000 for its inaugural edition, which will fund content creation as well as business and marketing activities.

“Great content is found on all platforms. As an organization focused on the future of storytelling in all its forms, we are excited to offer support to digital content creators active on social media,” says CMF President and CEO Valerie Creighton. “This pilot program will provide successful applicants with opportunities to develop creatively, build their skills and further their long-term business objectives so they can create more of the original content their audiences want to see—and acquire new fans along the way. We’re excited to see the impact of this critical pilot program as Canada’s audiovisual industry begins sweeping modernization efforts.”

Eligibility for the pilot program

At the time of submitting an application, creators will need to provide a business plan and demonstrate that they have been active for at least 12 months, with an average of one post per month in that period, on at least one of the eligible platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube.

Applicants will also need to demonstrate that they meet a minimum engagement threshold, which differs according to whether they create content in English or in French.

Funding may be used for identified business and marketing activities such as hiring a marketing consultant, social media manager, legal or accounting services, and more. Recipients will also be required to deliver at least four pieces of new prepared and edited content, which must meet all criteria pertaining to Canadian ownership and be produced in a CMF-supported genre as defined in the program’s guidelines.

Toronto and Montreal, September 18, 2023 – After several years of calls for change from the industry we proudly support, the Department of Canadian Heritage has unlocked new authorities for the CMF to administer our funding and programs moving forward.

As the CRTC undertakes its process to determine a new regulatory framework and Canadian Heritage initiates their work to modernize the country’s audiovisual industry, the CMF is embracing an evolving role that will bolster the growth and resilience of our industry from coast to coast to coast.

“The CMF has played a valuable and key role for Canadian content production for more than a decade,” says the Honourable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Canadian Heritage. “We have been listening to the industry’s feedback and understand the need for a more flexible and content-focused support model to respond to the sector’s needs and ongoing transformation. These new authorities will provide the CMF with a modern, more agile funding approach to ensure it remains an integral part of a competitive and resilient Canadian audiovisual sector for years to come.”

The CMF is dedicated to decision-making that is informed by data and consultations with the industry. Based on our 2021 Spark Courage: What We Heard report, we are working towards a future model that focuses on supporting creators and stories regardless of platform. The modernization signaled by the federal government, which will build more capacity, enable innovation, and generate high-quality Canadian content on all platforms, is a strong step towards the full implementation of the CMF’s new model. We will collaborate closely with Canadian Heritage to craft the program changes, which will include:

New opportunities in program criteria to reflect the many ways content is created

A move away from the siloed approach of Convergent and Experimental streams

Better alignment with the evolving market and regulations

Advancing an inclusive and sustainable industry through expanded sector development

A renewed focus on financing all phases of audiovisual content across platforms

“I want to thank the many members of Canada’s audiovisual industry who have shared their insights over the years. These new authorities and upcoming program changes that will support the broader audiovisual sector are a direct result of your feedback and advocacy,” says Valerie Creighton, President & CEO, Canada Media Fund. “I also want to thank Minister Rodriguez for his dedication to our sector and welcome Minister St-Onge for supporting us in seeing our new mandate through. The CMF’s priority will continue to be putting Canadian and Indigenous stories first—stories that represent who we are and who we aspire to be.”

The CMF is committed to an informed and collaborative industry-first approach to our work, which includes extensive consultation and engagement, from individual creators to small and large production companies to broadcasters, distributors, and platforms. Changes to the CMF’s programs will be phased in over the next two fiscal years. In addition to the upcoming consultations, which will begin later this fall, we will also draw on the valuable feedback we have received from the industry over many years of consultations.
