Director of English Content
Reporting to the Vice President of Content and Regulatory, the Director will support CMF’s strategic objectives by overseeing the development, implementation and interpretation of CMF’s policies and programs, and ensuring that CMF’s mandate is fulfilled in consistency with the distinctiveness of Canada’s English-language market.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration and alignment with the two other Directors of the Content Management Team (Director of French Content and Director of Interactive Digital Media Content):
- Participate in the development, streamlining, drafting and implementation of the CMF’s content-funding guidelines, with an emphasis on the English-language market
- Consult and maintain good relationships with industry stakeholders about the ongoing relevance and efficiency of the CMF’s policies and programs
- Advise the CMF Program Administrator at Telefilm Canada (CMFPA) on the CMF’s interpretations of its guidelines and policies
- Act as a key policy advisor on industry trends and upcoming issues and recommends solutions to the executive team
- Contribute to the overall management of the CMF and influence internal policies and procedures as a member of the organization’s senior management team
- Conduct research and analyze specific factors relating to the CMF’s policies and programs
- Represent the CMF at industry events and speak at conferences on behalf of the CMF, with a focus on the English market
- Accountable for all policy and program-related decisions in the English market in order to offer better services to the clients while maintaining the organization’s credibility
- Participate in decision-making committees and meetings
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Relevant university degree or equivalent years of experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working in the screen industry
- Extensive knowledge of Canada’s screen industries and how content is financed
- Solid experience in policy development and financing
- Superior analytical skills combined with a demonstrated ability to summarize complex concepts, conduct analyses, identify options as well as develop and recommend policies and formulate proposals on how to solve program-related issues
- Excellent drafting abilities and demonstrated ability to prepare quality written documents, including guidelines, correspondence, reports, information documents and other documents related to policies and programs
- Ability to listen to and analyze different opinions/proposals, but capable of making and standing by the final decision
- Proven ability to present, communicate and promote program objectives to various stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain efficient working relations and partnerships with various stakeholders and interest groups
- Good judgment and discretion
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; attention to detail
- Advanced strategic thinking, planning, project management, and problem-solving skills
- Extensive knowledge of the English Canadian television industry
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with tight deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Strong oral/written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, relationship management and diplomacy skills
- Can work as part of a bilingual team that serves the English and French markets
- Strong computer skills, including competence in Microsoft Office suite
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is required to be carried out frequently with time pressures in a multi-tasking environment
- Demands regular work outside of normal schedule
- Some travel required
- Work autonomously and as part of a team
- Work in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities in a constantly changing environment
