Human Resources Advisor

In a nutshell, the HR Advisor at the Canada Media Fund (CMF) provides management and staff with advice, coaching and communication in all areas of human resources. By building strong relationships and credibility with all levels of management, this role is responsible to counsel leaders on HR solutions that support the goals of the company.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • HR SYSTEMS, PROGRAMS & INITIATIVES
    • Manage the administration of HR systems including process improvements, training, and maintenance. Systems includes: PurelyHR, Ceridian, Officevibe, HRdownloads, First Reference Policy Pro, CompAnalyst, Manulife, Organizational Solutions Inc. (OSI), and iA Financial
    • Facilitate employee change processes, develop and implement employee surveys, perform data entry, data analyzation and rendering of reports as required
    • Partner with leadership to improve HR practices, process decisions and programs
    • Develop, implement and drive HR initiatives that impact talent management, talent acquisition, performance, employee relations, legislative adherence and participate in special projects
    • Participate and present HR Items at the HR/Governance Committee quarterly meetings
  • RECRUITMENT
    • Determine scope and specifications with hiring manager
    • Develop job descriptions and assist in job evaluation as required
    • Source, recruit, and screen candidates in a timely and cost-effective way
    • Manage interview logistics including surveying availability, bookings, and co-hosting
    • Implement testing and/or assessments and support closure of process (conduct reference checks, draft offer letters)
  • PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
    • Support the annual performance review rollout and schedule, prepare letters for staff
    • Facilitate the performance calibration and succession planning processes
    • Develop supporting information/documentation to assist management in implementing performance evaluations during onboarding and annual review period
  • COMPENSATION
    • Support leaders through the annual salary review process and incentive program
    • Provide guidance to leaders in areas such as salary recommendations for new hires, transfers, relocations, and promotions
    • Manage the CMF’s job evaluation system and update job descriptions
    • Support the market salary survey process (research and benchmarking)
    • Render salary scale recommendations aligned with competitive advantage objectives
  • POLICY & COMPLIANCE
    • Develop new and existing HR policies as they adhere to changing legislation
    • Ensure employee and employer compliance with company policies, employment standards and other regulatory employment and human rights requirements
    • Conduct an annual review of all HR policies and perform updates accordingly
    • Manage HR issues or queries including absence management (Time-Off Manager), performance concerns, disciplinary streams, departmental or individual conflict, workplace violence and harassment, terminations, etc.
  • CHANGE MANAGEMENT
    • Provide advice and expertise to develop business strategies, solutions and action plans that support the achievement of current and changing needs and objectives of the business and organization
    • Manage organizational change processes and approvals, supporting the ongoing work from home arrangement, and facilitating the return to office plan
    • Support leadership with workforce planning tactics to forecast/prepare staffing needs
  • TRAINING & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
    • Influence and empower leaders to accelerate the growth and development of their teams by providing advice and guidance on career growth, managing performance, and succession planning
    • Source, design, develop, and/or deliver training programs that have an efficient and effective impact on the organization and its employees
    • Recommend professional development courses for staff and management upon evaluating applicability to job scope.
  • EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
    • Responsible as primary point of contact for employee relations inquiries
    • Provide coaching, advice, and guidance to leaders on employee relations issues, including policy violations, discipline process and terminations
    • Conduct investigations and resolves sensitive employee issues and complaints
  • CULTURE & ENGAGEMENT
    • In collaboration with the Inclusion and Growth department, incorporate the CMF’s 2021-2024 strategy into various HR programs and initiatives
    • Coach, advise and support leaders on all aspects of employee engagement
    • Monitor and analyze engagement survey feedback results and render weekly reports
    • Offer input regarding general strategic and tactical issues that impact the company
    • Assist communications department with HR content writing for all-staff messaging
    • Build strong and collaborative relationships across all levels and departments
    • Conduct 30-60-90 Day HR Check-Ins to evaluate cultural integration and job-fit

WHO YOU ARE

Education

  • Master’s degree in human resources, employment relations, industrial/organizational psychology, business or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, business, or related field
  • Human resources management certificate
  • CPHR designation considered an asset

Experience

  • 7+ years of HR experience (minimum 3 years in advising/HRBP role)
  • Strong consultative, influencing, and negotiation skills and experience
  • Working experience in a KPI/target driven environment
  • Working experience in a non-for-profit considered an asset

Knowledge

  • Updated knowledge of recruitment strategies and employment legislation
  • Sound understanding of government entities and governing bodies
  • Technical knowledge of top Human Resources Information Systems and supported platforms in the industry
  • Updated knowledge of emerging workplace issues and critical HR news (global and Canadian research)

Skills

  • Bilingual in both French and English is preferred
  • Works under pressure in a fast-moving, performance-driven environment
  • Actively researches and performs on-going training to ensure personal knowledge of HR and employment legislation is kept up to date
  • Evaluates HR systems for efficiencies and areas of improvement
  • Achieves clear and measured KPIs (determined by executive management)
