Funded Projects

Funded Projects Database

The Canada Media Fund wants to keep applicants informed of funding decisions and results throughout the year. The database below contains projects that have been announced during the current fiscal year and all funded projects from prior years. New results will be added as they are published.
There are two types of announcements: Funding Decisions and Funding Results.

Requesting data from the Canada Media Fund (CMF)

The Canada Media Fund may provide additional information on funded projects upon request. Please read the data request guidelines at this link.

Funding Decisions

Funding Decisions indicate the selection of projects which have qualified for the CMF support but have yet to finalize all contracts. Only programs using a selective, competitive process to allocate funding are subject to a funding decision. These selective programs are: Experimental Stream, Aboriginal, English POV, Francophone Minority, and Diverse Languages.

A Funding Decision is posted on our website when decisions become available. Please note that there is one decision per application closing date. The decisions and funding commitments posted on the website are preliminary, as all requests must undergo a contracting process. Funding is not final until contracts are signed.

Funding Results

Funding results indicate approved and contracted applications for all convergent and experimental stream programs. The funding results are published on a quarterly basis.

Evaluation Jury

We rely on industry experts to contribute to the evaluation of leading-edge Canadian interactive productions.

Jury Members

Information in the funded projects database is correct as of the date of posting. The online database is updated at different times throughout the year, but not currently updated on a regular basis to reflect changes that may occur after posting, including changes in the applicant name or ownership of the project. If a project is subsequently withdrawn or refused funding, it will still appear on this page for informational purposes.

Synopsis

Basket is a humorous youth series that follows two 13-year-old friends on their journey to adolescence. The series mockingly—but with great tenderness—tells the story of Jemima and Jacob, two same-but-different teens linked by their passion for basketball and their skin colour and divided by their vision of the world, family values and opposite personalities. Through these BFFs, Basket downplays emotions related to first-time experiences through the lens of difference and relationships with others. Based on basketball practices and after-game parties, the series highlights the teens’ path as they start their second year of high school—but no one knows the challenges these teens have in store! Basketball is nothing compared with puberty.

Synopsis

The year is 1812. The place, Halifax, Canada. A small, special community resides on the banks of the Bedford Basin, known to sea-hardened inhabitants and curious locals alike as Africville. Founded by Black Loyalists and freed slaves seeking refuge for an entire generation impacted by slavery in a post-American Revolution world, its residents now form the black social and cultural beating heart of Atlantic Canada.  But while this shoreline town may sell sanctuary, it’s anything but Eden. Abolitionists to the south have won ground for the war of ideas, but racial tension and class warfare continues to be a source of conflict North of the border; especially between the well-to-do whites of bucolic Halifax and the newly landed black refugees.

Synopsis

Borg and Benny is a slapstick animated comedy in the tradition of Coyote and Road Runner and Tom and Jerry for ages 6+. The series is set in the not-so-distant techno future full of AI and over-automation. Robots do pretty much everything. Borg and Benny are two odd-couple automatons who work in the home of a hapless human family – a kind of modern-day “Jetsons” we rarely see. Borg is a big, dim “Personal Cyborg Assistant” with Trumpian tendencies - the self-proclaimed “Master of the Household – if not the universe. Benny is a small bot with a variety of attachments that enable him to do menial tasks. He serves as everything from a toaster to a vacuum cleaner:  like a Rumba crossed with a Swiss Army knife.
