Funded Projects

Funded Projects Database

The Canada Media Fund wants to keep applicants informed of funding decisions and results throughout the year. The database below contains projects that have been announced during the current fiscal year and all funded projects from prior years. New results will be added as they are published.
There are two types of announcements: Funding Decisions and Funding Results.

For information on funding results prior to 2010, please refer to the archives.

Funding Decisions

Funding Decisions indicate the selection of projects which have qualified for the CMF support but have yet to finalize all contracts. Only programs using a selective, competitive process to allocate funding are subject to a funding decision. These selective programs are: Experimental Stream, Aboriginal, English POV, Francophone Minority, and Diverse Languages.

A Funding Decision is posted on our website when decisions become available. Please note that there is one decision per application closing date. The decisions and funding commitments posted on the website are preliminary, as all requests must undergo a contracting process. Funding is not final until contracts are signed.

Funding Results

Funding results indicate approved and contracted applications for all convergent and experimental stream programs. The funding results are published on a quarterly basis.

Evaluation Jury

We rely on industry experts to contribute to the evaluation of leading-edge Canadian interactive productions.

Jury Members

Information in the funded projects database is correct as of the date of posting. The online database is updated at different times throughout the year, but not currently updated on a regular basis to reflect changes that may occur after posting, including changes in the applicant name or ownership of the project. If a project is subsequently withdrawn or refused funding, it will still appear on this page for informational purposes.

Synopsis

Destination Primus Vita is an interactive episodic experience in which puzzles and an exciting story combine and are intricately linked. This is the first game based in the Primus Vita universe. In each of the six episodes, you embody the crew heading toward Primus Vita in the year 3044 to accomplish the mission of a lifetime. During the voyage, which lasts four years, the crew members are put into cryosleep. While they are constantly physically stimulated by targeted electrical impulses, their minds are kept sharp with the help of NIM, the ship’s AI. NIM uses sensors to project a Puzzle Room and a Memory Room directly in the passengers’ brains. The memories stem directly from the protagonists’ subconscious. You experience the plight in the shoes of our six protagonists, round by round and episode by episode, and discover their inner conflicts, their greatest loves, and their convictions via clashing memories. The puzzles complete the picture with emotional and cognitive stimulation. At the beginning of each episode, the puzzles are initially quite simple but quickly become more challenging. Next, in the Puzzle Room, discover the object that will unleash your deepest memories. You will need these memories to obtain clues that will open up new puzzles.

Synopsis

East of the Rockies is a scripted, nonlinear Augmented Reality experience told in three chapters. Built on the newly-released ARCore and ARKit frameworks, our story uses stunning AR to give tablet and mobile users an unprecedented and affecting look inside a Japanese Canadian Internment Camp. As they interact with artfully-crafted objects and environments inside the camp, users will trace the fragmented moments of a family's past and uncover a story of love, loss – and, ultimately, healing. With AR technology coming to the masses for the first time, this project has the potential to reach an extremely broad audience, both inside Canada and internationally. Beyond that, East of the Rockies’ delicate and evocative look at the lives of Japanese Canadians under internment will have a significant social impact, and to bring a new kind of teaching experience to Canadian classrooms. East of the Rockies is a landmark achievement in AR storytelling that boldly explores the potential of this emerging medium to shed light on a dark chapter in Canada’s past.

Synopsis

Digital rights management (DRM) is the tool currently used to protect digital books against pirating. However, the current DRM offer is poorly adapted to the needs of self-publishing authors and small publishers. DRM systems are very costly and complex to use, and self-publishing authors do not have the means to purchase them or the technical know-how to use them. Consequently, self-publishing authors do not protect the works they publish and thereby expose themselves to the risks of seeing their works illegally copied and therefore losing revenue. Furthermore, they have no way of tracking the distribution (sharing) of their digital works or obtaining information on the people who read them. Not to mention that the current DRM offer does not enable transfers from reader to reader, which in turn makes it impossible to resell or loan digital books. Scénarex proposes a solution… The BookchainMC is an easy-to-use and free solution for self-publishing authors and publishers. It protects digital books and enables readers to resell or loan their digital works while ensuring a fair distribution of resale revenue among all of the actors involved, thanks to a smart contract running on a blockchain.
