Funded Projects

Funded Projects Database

The Canada Media Fund wants to keep applicants informed of funding decisions and results throughout the year. The database below contains projects that have been announced during the current fiscal year and all funded projects from prior years. New results will be added as they are published.
There are two types of announcements: Funding Decisions and Funding Results.

For information on funding results prior to 2010, please refer to the archives.

Funding Decisions

Funding Decisions indicate the selection of projects which have qualified for the CMF support but have yet to finalize all contracts. Only programs using a selective, competitive process to allocate funding are subject to a funding decision. These selective programs are: Experimental Stream, Aboriginal, English POV, Francophone Minority, and Diverse Languages.

A Funding Decision is posted on our website when decisions become available. Please note that there is one decision per application closing date. The decisions and funding commitments posted on the website are preliminary, as all requests must undergo a contracting process. Funding is not final until contracts are signed.

Funding Results

Funding results indicate approved and contracted applications for all convergent and experimental stream programs. The funding results are published on a quarterly basis.

Evaluation Jury

We rely on industry experts to contribute to the evaluation of leading-edge Canadian interactive productions.

Jury Members

Information in the funded projects database is correct as of the date of posting. The online database is updated at different times throughout the year, but not currently updated on a regular basis to reflect changes that may occur after posting, including changes in the applicant name or ownership of the project. If a project is subsequently withdrawn or refused funding, it will still appear on this page for informational purposes.

Synopsis

A year and a half has passed in the lives of our protagonists who now find themselves isolated by their own egocentricity. The day after their 30th wedding anniversary, Alex and Tom Noël receive very saddening news regarding Bastien Thomas, Tom’s ex. The news takes the Noël family aback and forces its members to reconnect. Whereas Alex is preparing to release her biography, Amélie is back from a yoga retreat in Peru, Lucille-Maude has once again been refused admission to university, and Virginie and Tom are learning the ropes of parenting with their child. As for Léonard, he is madly in love with his childhood sweetheart, Chantal Diallo, who he met in Guinea in the 1970s. This revived relationship causes a clash between the Noël and Diallo families, who have no other choice than to get to know each other better.

Synopsis

The “Connexion en cours” series is based on a very simple convention: following character’s conversations on Skype in real time. The characters exchange five times per week on the series’ Facebook page and their exchanges are displayed as native and almost real content in the followers’ feeds. It’s an intimate and regular rendezvous of sorts. The images and text posted on the series’ Facebook page also add to the richness and realism of the story. The characters indeed exist outside of the episodes themselves—in the digital dimension—through their social network activity.

Synopsis

After a successful first year for the Wendigos, Martin invests in a gaming house. The members move in on a full-time basis and focus on their daily training sessions. Every aspect of Justine’s life is framed by rules: the use of her cell phone, the time she spends training on CS:GO, her physical training routine, what she eats. The Wendigos take advantage of the opportunity provided by a competition to flee their structured schedule and participate in the celebrations underway in the hotel where the other teams are staying. Their excesses cost them the victory: the Wendigos are eliminated before the last stage of the tournament. Following this crushing defeat, Martin fears that he jumped the gun by purchasing the gaming house. He must react quickly to relieve the burden of his investment. He recruits a League of Legends team and hires Zachary, an ambassador who promises sponsorship deals and increased revenue. Justine must then post sponsored content on Twitch and publish a predetermined number of posts on all of the other social networks. An austere climate reigns in the gaming house, and the teams engage in a fierce competition.

Synopsis

Thirty-something couple Jane and Charlie have long given up on having a baby the fun way. They have also given up on having a baby the medically invasive way too. But while they lack the genetic components to make a child, they refuse to give up on being parents together. After many failed rounds of infertility treatments, season two of How to Buy a Baby finds Jane and Charlie in the throes of adoption, a process steeped in paperwork, parenting classes, home inspections and difficult decisions about just how far they are willing to go to become parents. Jane and Charlie are trying to adopt a new mindset when it comes to starting a family, but how do you make peace with the loss of your biology while remaining hopeful that adoption will make you a parent? How do you market yourself to potential birth parents, trying to convince them to give you their baby? Should you be yourself? Or the 2.0, slightly better/fake version? How do you go about your life as usual while wondering every time the phone rings if it’s “the call” that will make you a parent? And what happens when one partner wants to give up while the other wants to keep going? Darkly funny and achingly honest, season two of How to Buy a Baby will follow Jane and Charlie as they navigate adoption.

Synopsis

Miss Persona is an industrious little lady with a big imagination! Her tippy-top number-one favourite activity in her tiny little world is to take care of the forest’s creatures and look after every little thing, especially her best friend -- a loyal and shy teddy bear who loves bowties named Bernard who lives with her in her home in the Fix-it-up Forest. Along the way Miss Persona encounters tricky problems that she must then figure out how to solve. The good news is problems aren’t a problem for this peppy problem-solver! Miss Persona sees problems as fun challenges. She likes to look at her problems from different perspectives, so it’s a handy thing she has such a magical imagination. She’s found a unique and super- fun way to solve problems: she dresses up and pretends she is the type of person who normally solves the type of problem she currently has. When she can’t find Bernard during a game of hide-and-seek, she dresses up like a special investigator, or when Bernard and her find a robot that won’t power up she dresses like a mechanic. The possibilities are positively plentiful for Miss Persona’s personas! Bernard also does his very best to lend a furry paw, usually dressing up and joining in on the fun. When Miss Persona solves her problem, she can’t wait to log on and tell her friends all about her latest adventure!

Synopsis

Mouvement Deluxe is a 15-episode animation series in which absurdity and editing speed set the humorous tone. It follows the adventures of a group of homegrown actors through various sketches as well as in their quest to unite against a filmmaker who imposes upon them a new very annoying character and now only swears by sponsorships. A series of very short clips are edited at lightning speed to produce episodes of approximately three minutes in duration. These episodes are completed by a serial presented as a bonus throughout the week. The series’ tone is irreverent, borderline weird and at complete odds with the aesthetic appeal of the settings and the puppets, which are very polished, colourful and friendly. The lively and unbridled script explores an explosive form of humour that focuses on surprise.

Synopsis

Nikola Tesla and the End of the World is a serialized sci-fi dramatic web series that tells the story of brilliant physicist Sophie Clarke’s adventures with Nikola Tesla, the famous turn of the century inventor. Fast paced and absurd, our award-winning first season was tailored to an audience with a short attention span. The story played on themes familiar to geeks, gamers and sci-fi fans, but always with a twist: our audience will have heard that the famous inventor Nikola Tesla was a genius, but they might not know that he could also be elitist, self-destructive and narcissistic.
