Funded Projects

Funded Projects Database

The Canada Media Fund wants to keep applicants informed of funding decisions and results throughout the year. The database below contains projects that have been announced during the current fiscal year and all funded projects from prior years. New results will be added as they are published.
There are two types of announcements: Funding Decisions and Funding Results.

Requesting data from the Canada Media Fund (CMF)

The Canada Media Fund may provide additional information on funded projects upon request. Please read the data request guidelines at this link.

Funding Decisions

Funding Decisions indicate the selection of projects which have qualified for the CMF support but have yet to finalize all contracts. Only programs using a selective, competitive process to allocate funding are subject to a funding decision. These selective programs are: Experimental Stream, Aboriginal, English POV, Francophone Minority, and Diverse Languages.

A Funding Decision is posted on our website when decisions become available. Please note that there is one decision per application closing date. The decisions and funding commitments posted on the website are preliminary, as all requests must undergo a contracting process. Funding is not final until contracts are signed.

Funding Results

Funding results indicate approved and contracted applications for all convergent and experimental stream programs. The funding results are published on a quarterly basis.

Evaluation Jury

We rely on industry experts to contribute to the evaluation of leading-edge Canadian interactive productions.

Jury Members

Information in the funded projects database is correct as of the date of posting. The online database is updated at different times throughout the year, but not currently updated on a regular basis to reflect changes that may occur after posting, including changes in the applicant name or ownership of the project. If a project is subsequently withdrawn or refused funding, it will still appear on this page for informational purposes.

Synopsis

Immersive Design Studios (IDS) will be commercializing its AI Media Processing, an AI-driven solution for visual media. This tool initially aims to enable users to upscale any and all media content to 4K resolution quickly and inexpensively through a simple, secure, and flexible cloud-based application. IDS presented the world’s first AI Media Processing prototype at the SIGGRAPH Conference 2018, successfully demonstrating that the company had developed an innovative and viable solution. Compared to traditional “brute force” AI data training, IDS’ AI Media Processing leverages a series of complementary AI neural networks to intelligently add new pixels, thereby enhancing resolution rather than simply magnifying or stretching existing pixels to fill more space. Deployed through the cloud to enable seamless data transfer as well as scalability, IDS’ Media Processing solution will be accessible without special hardware.

Synopsis

Knight Squad 2 has taken over the crazy 2015 multi-player game Knight Squad, launched in 2015. The second season has the same chaos and simplicity as the first volume while adding a plethora of game modes and extravagance. Knight Squad 2 features eight knights and therefore requires eight competitors. These knights face death in a range of situations. Game modes can feature the king of the mountain, capture the flag—and even soccer. Fights lead to chaotic and whacky clashes, where swords and laser guns abound. Knight Squad 2 has new game modes such as the siege mode, where two teams make use of catapults to take the enemy’s castle down. This time around, players control all the battle settings through weapons, team size and curses. Players can now be part of individual or group campaigns known as crusades. Crusades put knights to the test with many fights against artificial intelligence that breaks all the rules. Look out for Knight Squad 2 on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC come August 2020.

Synopsis

Shadow Light is a narrative game at the crossroads of RPG, Hack ’n’ Slash and MOBA, where the Balor Legion and the Holy Knights of Palatine confront each other. Select your faction to play against your friends online and tip the scales in your favour, or check out Centuria’s wide world to seal the fate of one of the two opposing campaigns. The game offers two modes: solo, an isometric Hack ’n’ Slash–RPG combination with an intense narration and a plethora of choices and player moves divided in two stories, and online, where players in groups of three ace each other in MOBA arenas. These modes come together with an innovative mechanism—the war scale—that changes the world and solo campaign experience depending on online player results. Be part of crushing defeats and triumphant victories in real time while hordes of players fight to control Centuria. Alternatively, unravel the Wandering Watch mode, take control of a monster, and go looking for the epic man with another player!
