February 12, 2018

Toronto, February 12, 2018 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today an investment of $3.5M to support the production of 16 projects as part of its Web Series Pilot Program. This program was put in place to finance Canadian web series in their second or subsequent season and was developed to meet the needs in the marketplace for linear content created for online consumption.

CMF funding contributes to the return of nine web series in English and seven in French. One is from Manitoba, eight from Ontario and seven from Québec. Eleven projects are in the Drama genre, three are intended for Children and Youth and two are documentary web series. The jury is composed of Canadian and international industry specialists including: Voyelle Acker (Paris), Kelly-Lynne Ashton (Toronto), Joël Bassaget (Berlin), Véronique Marino (Montréal) and Emilia Zboralska (Toronto). Jury members have complementary skill sets including business development and acquisitions; independent production in digital media, film, and television; and web distribution.
