Toronto, May 4, 2016 - Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield announced on Tuesday that Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund (CMF), will be awarded the 2016 Saskatchewan Order of Merit, that province’s highest honour.
The Saskatchewan Order of Merit recognizes excellence, achievement and contributions to the social, cultural and economic well-being of the province and its people. It acknowledges individuals who have made their mark in the arts, agriculture, business, industry, community leadership, occupations, professions, public service, research and volunteer service.
Reacting to the news, Alain Cousineau, Chair of the CMF Board of Directors stated, “I have had the pleasure to work closely with Valerie for the last three years since I was appointed to the board of the CMF and have witnessed the exemplary contributions she has made in support of culture and the economic development of the television and digital media industries in both the province of Saskatchewan and for the benefit of the country.”
“The CMF is among many provincial and national organizations that can attest to the fact that Valerie is a well-respected leader and visionary who has played a role in the growth, success and well-being of the arts and screen-based sector in Saskatchewan. Valerie’s commitment and deep engagement have not been limited to her home province. In her present position as President and CEO of the CMF, Valerie leads a national organization that contributes to the development, financing and promotion of Canadian audiovisual content.”
Established in 1985, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit takes precedence over all other honours and awards in that province. In 1991 the Government of Canada granted recognition to the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and a place in the national sequence of orders, decorations and medals; immediately after national orders and before national decorations.
The Saskatchewan Order of Merit ceremony will take place on May 24 in Regina with Solomon Schofield presiding.
