CMF welcomes Joy Loewen as new Vice President of Growth & Inclusion 

Toronto, April 1st, 2024 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is delighted to welcome seasoned industry executive and champion for representation Joy Loewen as our new Vice President, Growth & Inclusion, effective April 29, 2024. Reporting to Mathieu Chantelois, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs, CMF, Joy will lead our national team. 

“Joy’s thirteen-year track record at the National Screen Institute—including five at its helm—speaks for itself. A transformative leader, she has reinvigorated and stabilized the NSI, led the creation of high-impact programs to support Indigenous and racialized creators, and established several groundbreaking partnerships,” says Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “I am overjoyed to welcome Joy to the CMF, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish with her leading our Growth & Inclusion team.”

In May 2023, Loewen announced that she would be stepping down as CEO of the NSI after successfully completing a three-year strategic plan. She joined the NSI in 2005 as a Program Manager and left in 2010 to pursue other opportunities. She returned to the non-profit in 2016 as Manager of Programs and Development and was named its Acting Executive Director in May 2019, before taking the role of CEO in January 2020.  

In addition, Joy has worked as a broadcast and festival programmer at WTN (now W Network), CBC, and Gimli Film Festival.  

Based in Winnipeg, Joy holds a bachelor’s degree in radio and television arts from Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University). She is an active volunteer and a member of several community and non-profit boards and councils, including The Winnipeg Foundation, Canada's National Ballet School, the Order of Manitoba Advisory and Manitoba King’s Counsel Advisory.
