Canada Media Fund invests over $19M in 37 interactive digital media projects
Toronto/Montréal, August 12, 2022 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today announced an investment of $19.3M for the prototyping and production of 37 Canadian interactive digital media projects. These projects will receive funding through three different programs under the CMF’s Experimental Stream—Innovation & Experimentation, Commercial Projects, and Prototyping.
“Canadian creators are at the leading edge of interactive digital media development and production and the world is taking notice,” says Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “Thanks to the Canada Media Fund’s support, many talented creators can bring their immersive and gaming experiences, software, and enabling technologies to IDM markets around the globe. Congratulations to all the recipients in this round of funding. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!”
Innovation & Experimentation Program
Projects funded by the CMF through our Experimental Stream’s Innovation & Experimentation Program are Canadian interactive or immersive digital media content and software applications that are innovative and leading-edge. $7.4M through the first round of funding of this program will support seven digital media projects.
A jury of specialists evaluated the projects submitted for production support. This round’s jury consisted of Stéphane D’Astous, Annick Dumais, Rochelle Grayson, Scott C. Jones, Marika Laforest, and Elgin-Skye McLaren. Click here to read more about each juror involved in the application evaluation.

Prototyping Program
The CMF’s Prototyping Program allocates funding at the early stages of building a product to facilitate demonstrations of the project’s intended functionalities and design. Specifically, this phase is for experimenting, testing, and validating different concepts and hypotheses to arrive at a first functional prototype.
An investment of $4.3M in the first round of funding will enable the development of 22 digital media prototypes, including games, rich interactive media, and software applications.
