CMF administers Changing Narratives Fund to support diversity in Canada’s audiovisual industry

Toronto/Montréal, October 21, 2024 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is proud to announce our role in administering a portion of the Changing Narratives Fund, an initiative from the Government of Canada designed to support diverse communities and organizations in telling their stories and participating in the media and cultural industries by funding professional development activities that will increase the number of qualified and diverse creators in those sectors. The Department of Canadian Heritage announced the launch of the Changing Narratives Fund earlier today.

October 31, 2024 update: Applications open on November 21! Check out the Program Guidelines and FAQs to help you prepare.

The CMF’s administering of the Changing Narratives Fund will focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives within Canada's audiovisual industry. These investments will support a range of activities, including mentorship, training, and work placements, to provide creators and companies the industry opportunities they need to succeed at all stages.

“Our country’s audiovisual industry has thrived because of the power of Indigenous and Canadian storytellers. They are the heart of our industry, offering unique perspectives that resonate deeply with audiences at home and abroad,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the CMF. “Through initiatives like the Changing Narratives Fund, the Canada Media Fund will be able to do even more to foster opportunities for creators from diverse communities to raise their voices and add to the rich tapestry of stories that define us as a nation—our diversity, our history, and our collective experiences."
