Festivals and Award Ceremonies for Canadian Webseries
Given the perpetually increasing offer of quality productions, ‘discoverability’ remains one of the main challenges that webseries creators face. What can creators do to make sure their projects stand out from the competition? Among the options that are available to them, they may enter their work in national and international competitions.
To help creators see clear through all of this, here’s a directory of competitions for which Canadian webseries are eligible.
Note: Several sites online enable users to search for festivals (webseries, film, television, etc.) throughout the world and to directly submit their productions. This market is dominated by two sites:
- Withoutabox was founded in 2000 and acquired by IMDb, an Amazon subsidiary, in 2008. The site provides filmmakers with a platform to conduct searches among more than 3,000 festivals on all five continents and enables them to submit their films to more than 850 film festivals throughout the world.
- FilmFreeway exists since 2013 and is based in Vancouver. It states that its database contains more than 6,000 festivals. The site positions itself as a free and user-friendly alternative to Withoutabox.
Note: Contact us to inform us of any other festival or award ceremony for which Canadian webseries are eligible and that is not listed here.
An initiative of the Independent Production Fund with the collaboration of the Canada Media Fund.
