Canada Media Fund to showcase Canadian talent and content on Parliament Hill

Ottawa, September 26, 2018 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) hosted its third annual Showcase event on Parliament Hill celebrating the success of Canadian TV and digital media. The event brought together parliamentarians; the on-and off-screen talent behind several Canadian productions; as well as broadcasters, audiovisual industry leaders and members of the public service.

Guests were invited to interact with producers, creators and on-screen talent who tell Canada’s stories to the world, including Anna Hopkins and Franco Lo Presti (Bad Blood), Peter Mooney (Burden of Truth), Kamilla Kowal and Evan Stern (Letterkenny), Cynthia Dale (Street Legal), Lisa Meeches (Taken) and Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp).

French-language talent and productions included the child actors from Amélie et compagine; Marie-Thérèse Fortin and Stéphane Gagnon (Mémoires Vives); Isabelle Richer and Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin (Ruptures);  Raed Hammoud (T’es où Youssef); and Alice Pascual and Pierre-Yves Cardinal (Trop).

Maya Kodes, the first interactive holographic pop star and virtual singer, wowed guests with her unique holographic experience. Guests also had the opportunity to experience the exceptional quality of digital media productions developed by Canadian creators at an interactive station which featured Transpose, a VR video game by award-winning Secret Location.

“This yearly event presents an exclusive opportunity for the elected representatives from across Canada to meet the stellar on- and off-screen talent of some of Canada’s most successful television, digital and interactive productions,” stated Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund. “As we look to support Canadian storytellers in new and inspiring ways, we recognize and thank the Government of Canada for its commitment to our country’s dynamic arts and culture sector.”

“What a fantastic initiative!” said the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism. “The Canada Media Fund helps us support, stimulate and promote Canada’s creative sector, both at home and abroad. Today, it is giving us the chance to build relationships with key players in the television, film and video game industries. Our government is proud to support our creators, producers and cultural entrepreneurs by helping them access markets here and internationally, so that they can compete with the best productions from around the world.”
