14 projects receive funding through the CMF’s Aboriginal Program

Toronto, July 30, 2018 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a total contribution of over $7.6M to 14 convergent projects that applied for production funding through its Aboriginal Program.

Applications for funding were evaluated by a jury composed of individuals from Indigenous communities. Jury members were Tina Keeper (Norway House Cree Nation), Elizabeth LaPensée (Anishnaabe), Melissa Mollen Dupuis (Innu Nation) and Sylvain Rivard. Together they bring a complementary skill sets including Indigenous-led audiovisual production, contemporary visual arts and storytelling and knowledge of several Indigenous languages. Canadian and international audiences will enjoy 10 documentaries, three children’s and youth programs and one drama series. Three of the projects are from Alberta, one from British Columbia, one from Manitoba, four from Nunavut, two from Ontario, and three from Québec.

Including this round of funding, since 2010, the CMF has invested more than $60.2M in 140 Canadian Aboriginal productions through the Aboriginal Program. Aboriginal producers also access funding across several other CMF programs, including the Northern Incentive and the Performance Envelope Program.
