$19.5M awarded to 31 interactive digital media projects

Toronto, January 18, 2017 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today that 24 interactive digital media projects received a total of $15.7M in funding as part of the second round of production support from the 2016-2017 Experimental Stream Innovation Program. It also announced a $3.8M investment for the production of seven projects as part of the Experimental Stream Commercial Projects Pilot Program, for a total investment of $19.5M in 31 different projects.

The Experimental Stream encourages the creation of innovative, interactive digital media content and software applications. Including this latest round of funding, the CMF has invested more than $170M in the production of 290 interactive digital media projects since the Experimental Stream was created in 2010.

Innovation Program
Of the 24 productions, one is from Alberta, three from British Columbia, eight from Ontario, one from Prince Edward Island and 11 from Québec. Users will enjoy 11 games, six rich and interactive media, five software applications, one social media application, and one video.

Production support provides funding for the creation of a final, market-ready, Canadian interactive digital media content and software applications that are innovative and leading-edge.

Commercial Projects Pilot Program
Of the companies receiving an investment as part of this program one is based in Manitoba, three in Ontario and three in Québec. The projects include four games, two software applications, and one rich and interactive media.

Funding through the Commercial Projects Pilot Program is designed to support Canadian interactive, innovative and leading-edge digital media content and software applications which have an increased emphasis on commercial success.
