21 Canadian companies receive more than $5.2M for their innovative projects

(Toronto, August 07, 2013) The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today a contribution of more than $5.2M in development and marketing support to innovative digital media projects as part of the first round of its 2013-2014 Experimental Stream funding. In July 2013, the CMF announced a contribution of more than $12.1M to 17 projects that received production support.

Since 2010, the CMF has contributed $112.3M to 290 interactive digital media projects as part of the Experimental Stream.

Development support
A total of 15 Canadian companies have received support totaling $3.3M for 15 projects  including eight games, five interactive content platforms for websites, and two social media platforms,. The 15 companies are located in various regions of the country, - one in British Columbia, one in Nova Scotia, six in Ontario, and seven in Québec. For a complete list of projects receiving development support for this round of funding, please click here.

Development support provides funding for the conceptualization of an eligible project and/or for the development of the creative and technical elements of an eligible project and the drafting of a product proposal for business development and financing purposes.

Marketing support
The CMF has contributed $1.9M in marketing support to six interactive digital media projects. Projects are from three regions in Canada, one from British Columbia, three from Ontario, and two from Québec. For a complete list of projects receiving marketing support for this round of funding, please click here.

Canadians and international audiences will be able to enjoy new digital media content such as an application for social media to create cinemagraphs, an application to access smartphone functions on any device, a website for producers and broadcasters to create effective cross-platform strategies, an integrated delivery management system, an application to publish engaging interactive eBooks, and an interactive documentary application enhanced by augmented reality and geolocalized content.

Marketing support provides funding for the marketing and promotion of an eligible project such as the creation of national and international marketing campaigns, design costs, creation and market-testing of advertising, use of the Internet for promotion or transactions, and more.
