Canada and Denmark to invest in digital media codevelopment
Toronto/Copenhagen, March 20, 2017 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Danish Film Institute (DFI) announced today an agreement to establish an incentive for the codevelopment of digital media projects between Canadian and Danish producers. The announcement was made by Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund and Claus Ladegaard, Head of Film Funding of the Danish Film Institute at an event gathering Canadian and Danish producers, held during CPH:DOX, Copenhagen International Film Festival.
This Incentive will support the codevelopment of new digital content that is innovative, explores new ways of telling stories, experiments with new formats and platforms and new ways of engaging audiences. The project must involve at least one Danish producer eligible under the DFI’s criteria, and one Canadian producer eligible under the CMF’s criteria.
“This partnership is a reflection of the CMF’s commitment to provide access to diverse sources of funding for Canadian digital media producers. It supports our objective to foster mutually-beneficial relationships between content creators from Canada and their counterparts in key coproduction countries, such as Denmark,” said Valerie Creighton. “We are pleased to be working with the Danish Film Institute. We believe this initiative will expose audiences from both countries to the quality and creativity, as well as the depth and diversity of Canadian and Danish digital media content.”

The Canada-Denmark Co-Development Incentive for Digital Media Projects budget is set at CAD $300,000, with each partner investing half of the total amount.
Finding a coproducer
With the help of the Canada Media Fund and the Canadian Embassy in Denmark, a delegation of 10 Canadian producers attended CPH:DOX, Copenhagen International Film Festival, to find coproduction opportunities with Danish producers. A delegation of Danish producers will travel to Canada later in the fall.
Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this development incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website by clicking here. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.
How to apply
Projects will be evaluated and chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from both funding organisations. Recipients will be announced in late February 2018.
