Canada Media Fund becomes presenting partner of image+nation, Film Festival LGBTQueer Montréal

Montréal, May 20, 2021 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is proud to announce it has entered into an agreement with image+nation, Film Festival LGBTQueer Montréal to become presenting and all-year partner for the 2021 edition of what is one of Canada’s largest queer film festivals. The two organizations vouch to continue this one-of-a-kind collaboration to foster queer talent and stories in Canada.

The CMF has since its inception been a proud supporter of LGBTQ2S+ creators of content and stories featuring talent and characters from this community. Among these we find ground-breaking shows that have amassed a cult following such as 5e rang, Féminin/Féminin, Fragile, Orphan Black, Schitt’s Creek, Une autre histoire, Unité 9 or Wynonna Earp, to name a few.

“As part of our commitment to a more equitable and inclusive industry, the Canada Media Fund has developed new partnerships with film festivals and organizations that give a voice to underrepresented communities in our industry,” said Mathieu Chantelois, Vice-President Communications and Promotion, CMF. “We’re extremely proud to support the image+nation film festival, as we discover, celebrate and fall in love with so many beautiful stories of and by members of the LGBTQ2S+ community.”

“We are pleased to welcome Canada Media Fund as the first Presenting Partner of the image+nation LGBTQueer Film festival,” said Charlie Boudreau, Executive Director image+nation. “This timely partnership with the Canada Media Fund arrives as we embark on expansive and diversifying initiatives. This new partnership helps us to actualize our mandate of bringing diverse queer stories, storytelling and storytellers to Canadian screens; amplifying queer voices through media representation. image+nation stands upon its foundation of 34 years of experience and reflection of queer storytelling and through our collaboration with CMF this foundation grows stronger while it enriches the Canadian media landscape.”
