Canada Media Fund renews Slate Development Pilot Program with increased eligibility and funding
Toronto, December 8, 2022 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) is announcing the renewal of our Slate Development Pilot Program for a second year. With a budget of just over $4M, the Slate Development Pilot Program offers a more flexible approach to producers in the development of audiovisual projects by providing $75,000 in CMF funding for a slate of up to three projects, without the requirement of an attached Canadian broadcaster.
A revised selection method to widen the program's reach
Similar to last year’s version of the program, some eligible applicants will be directly notified by the CMF if in the past 5 years they have the applicable level of CMF-reported gross sales for either Children & Youth or Documentary projects and meet a designated threshold of CMF-funded Children & Youth or Documentary projects.
To recognize historic barriers to access and to better support equity- and sovereignty- seeking applicants, this year’s iteration of the program has an additional access point with more flexible eligibility criteria for companies that are owned and controlled by individuals that identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis or are members of racialized communities. These companies will be invited to participate in a selective process if in the past 5 years they have any CMF-reported gross sales in any genre and meet a designated threshold of CMF funded projects in any CMF genre.
