Canadian delegation to attend Celtic Media Festival 2019
Toronto, June 27, 2018 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Celtic Media Festival announced today a partnership in view of hosting a Canadian delegation at the 2019 edition of the Festival, which will take place in Aviemore, Scotland, from June 4 to 6, 2019. The announcement was made at an event during XpoNorth in Inverness, Scotland.
Canadian producers and broadcasters are invited to attend the Celtic Media Festival to take part in the International Pitching Forum, which will provide Canadian and Celtic delegates with opportunities to do business on an international stage. A total of five to 10 Canadian producers will be selected to attend, with travel, accommodation and accreditation expenses paid for by the Celtic Media Festival. For the first time, the Festival will introduce a development prize of £10,000 for a winning pitch. This does not preclude any other productions from gaining commissions and funding from broadcasters.
“As part of our ongoing commitment to generate codevelopment and coproduction opportunities for Canadian creators, we are delighted to partner with the Celtic Media Festival to facilitate partnerships between Canadian producers and creators from the six Celtic nations,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “Canada has rich and long-standing cultural ties with the Celtic world and we are delighted to bring together Canadian and Celtic creators to do business, and bring to life stories that appeal to audiences from Cape Breton Island to Cornwall and beyond.”
“We’re hugely excited to continue on from the success of Celtic Media Festival International Pitching Forum and introduce and exciting prize for the winning pitch at Celtic Media Festival 2019,” said Catriona Logan, Celtic Media Festival Director. “We are passionate about providing opportunities to develop excellent content, and this prize is testament to our ongoing desire to support production in the Celtic Nations and Regions and beyond. We’re delighted to welcome our Canadian cousins and hope that this will be the beginning of a fruitful working partnership for our producers.”
In 2019, the focus is on Factual Programming, and producers are invited to submit their proposals to [email protected] from September 15, 2018 onwards.
A short list of submissions will be selected for the presentation of live pitches. The live pitches will be held at the Celtic Media Festival in Aviemore, Scotland. Pitches will be made in closed sessions with only the Forum moderators, the Forum decision makers and the selected producer/team present at each pitch.
The 40th Celtic Media Festival will welcome hundreds of delegates to a packed festival programme in the historic venue of Aviemore, Scotland. Supported by the Highland Council, XpoNorth, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, Creative Scotland, Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, TG4, BBC Scotland, RTÉ, MG ALBA, S4C, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Cymru Wales, the festival consistently attracts international delegates wherever it is held and offers a programme that celebrates the influential media industry of the Celtic nations and regions, as well as providing networking opportunities for delegates and speakers alike.
