CMF invests $10M in 49 innovative digital media projects
Toronto, February 12, 2019 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today that 49 innovative digital media projects would receive a total of $10M in funding through two of its programs. A total of $3.9M will be invested in 21 projects through the second round of funding of its Experimental Stream’s Innovation Program, Prototyping and an additional $2.2M are being invested in 10 projects through the Experimental Stream’s Innovation Program, Marketing and Promotion. A further $3.9M are being invested in 18 projects through the Web Series Pilot Program.
Innovation Program, Prototyping
Audiences will have access to a variety of new digital content including 15 games, four rich interactive media and two software applications.
Including this round of funding, the CMF has invested over $67.2M in the prototyping of 312 innovative digital media projects since 2010.

Innovation Program, Marketing and Promotion
Ten projects, including six games, three rich interactive media and one software will receive a total investment of $2.2M.
Funding through this subprogram is designed to support the promotion of Canadian interactive digital media content and software applications. Including this round of funding, the CMF has invested since 2010 over $28.7M in the marketing and promotion of 130 innovative digital media projects.

Web Series Pilot Program
A second jury of Canadian and international specialists composed by Kelly-Lynne Ashton (Toronto), Joël Bassaget (Berlin), Véronique Marino (Montréal), Ana Cecilia Springefeldt (Rio de Janeiro) and Emilia Zboralska (Toronto) evaluated projects that applied for funding through the CMF’s Web Series Pilot Program. The CMF will invest $3.9M in 18 projects, of which 14 are dramas and four are children’s and youth projects.
This program was put in place to finance Canadian web series in their second or subsequent season and was developed to meet the needs in the marketplace for linear content created for online consumption. Including this round of funding, the CMF has invested over $9.4M in the production of 44 web series.
