Hot Docs Partners with Encore+ YouTube Channel to Create Hot Docs Collection Playlist
Toronto, April 4, 2018 – Encore+, a YouTube channel devoted to streaming memorable Canadian films and TV shows from the past is pleased to announce a new partnership with Hot Docs. This partnership will see the creation of the Hot Docs Collection Playlist on Encore+, which will stream select Canadian documentaries previously screened at Hot Docs Festival or at the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema; or which have been created by Hot Docs production fund recipients or market program alumni. The Hot Docs Collection Playlist is available now for free with many films available in both French and English, with additional titles to be added over the coming months.

Titles that will stream as part of the Hot Docs Collection Playlist include: Kanhesatake: 270 Years of Resistance and Rocks at Whiskey Trench, both directed by 2009 Hot Docs Outstanding Achievement Award winner Alanis Obomsawin and both offered in English and French versions; the 2006 Festival film Actuality: The Art and Life of Allan King, directed by John Haslett Cuff; Tu as crié Let Me Go, directed by Anne Claire Poirier, which screened in the Redux program of the 2017 Festival; Hot Docs’ 2011 Focus On recipient Alan Zweig’s A Hard Name, produced by Primitive Entertainment; Yo-Yo Ma: Inspired by Bach, directed by Barbara Willis Sweete, whose work as director and producer has played at three Hot Docs Festivals; Pour la suite du monde, directed by Michel Brault and Pierre Perrault, screened at Hot Docs 2012 as part of the Outstanding Achievement Award retrospective honouring Michel Brault; and Au Chic Resto Pop, directed by Tahani Rached, who was the Hot Docs Focus On recipient in 2006.
The Playlist will also stream The National Parks Project, an extraordinary 13-episode series that follows several of the country’s most acclaimed filmmakers and musicians as they explore and perform live in Canada’s national parks. Produced by FilmCAN and Primitive Entertainment, in conjunction with Parks Canada, Discovery Channel HD, the CMF and the Rogers Cable Network Fund, the series won the Genie Award for Best Short Documentary in 2012, and the 2011 Gemini Award for Best Performing Arts Program or Series or Arts Documentary Program or Series.
Working closely with Canada’s film and television producers, distributors, broadcasters, unions, guilds and other industry associations, Encore+ is spearheaded by the Canada Media Fund with support from Google Canada, Bell Media, BroadbandTV (BBTV), and Deluxe Toronto. Telefilm Canada is also a key partner in this endeavor, providing financial and promotional support.
