Programs & Deadlines

Canada is One of the Leading
Coproduction Partners in the World.

The CMF is part of Canada’s strong funding ecosystem that fosters audiovisual content creation and encourages international coproduction.

Together, Canada’s coproduction treaties and the CMF’s financing provide opportunities for Canadian producers and their international counterparts to share resources and talent to tap into new markets. As consumers have growing access to content from all corners of the world, producers can benefit greatly from working together on the international front.

Coproducing with Canada

Foreign producers need to find a Canadian partner before accessing any funding in Canada. Projects must have at least one Canadian and one international producer.

International Coproduction Treaties And MOUs
Canada has coproduction treaties and MOUs (Memoranda of Understanding) in place with more than 50 countries.

Telefilm Canada administers all coproduction agreements on behalf of the Canadian government. For guidelines and detailed information about treaties and MOUs, click here. To search for Canadian companies or productions registered as official coproductions, click here.

Canada’s Provincial/Territorial Screen Associations
As a collaborative effort with several Canadian funding organizations and industry associations at the national, provincial and territorial level, additional funding, tax credits and local services may be available through this wide network of industry organizations. EyeOnCanada.ca allows Canadian and international producers to browse through photos, videos, production details, and production company information for Canadian television, digital media and feature film projects that have gone to market.

CMF Trends
Periodically, the CMF publishes research reports relating to coproductions, best practices, and case studies on our CMF Trends website.

International Coproduction and Codevelopment Incentives

The international coproduction and codevelopment incentives are designed to support the CMF’s objectives of finding innovative solutions to encourage the coproduction and codevelopment of content. The CMF partners with international funding organizations to develop matching funds to invest in the creation of innovative projects that have at least one Canadian and one international producer.

Below is a list of agreements for this fiscal year signed to date, with new international partnerships being announced throughout the year.

Project Description

From ordinary women (housewives, students, etc.) to famous actresses and dancers, who saw the injustices and cruelty of the war, and decided to be spies, messengers for the resistance and Nazi killers...
The stories of these incredible women inspired me to make this program so that more parts of the world know their stories of inspiration, faith, humanity, perseverance, humbleness and courage. The anecdotes about their lives were investigated through the Internet, blogs and books.

Maison de production média numérique. documentaire, Série Web, film

Project Description

The idea that we had for this documentary is essentially for a small story to tell a big story. It starts with a fictional background of a man – a writer- who sets out in search for his past, retracing the footsteps of his father who had abandoned the family and emigrated from Naples to Canada in the 1950s and reinvented a new life. This “casus belli” will be the common thread that will take us on this adventure. Starting from the massive immigration of Italians to Canada at the beginning of the 1940s until the present day, the intention is to have the viewer’s attention focused on the reason why those Italians chose to speak English or French.
