Canada and Colombia to invest in digital media codevelopment

Toronto/Bogotá, May 15, 2017 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF), Proimágenes Colombia (Proimágenes) and MinTIC (Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications of Colombia) announced today an agreement to establish an incentive for the codevelopment of fiction, documentary and/or animation projects created for digital platforms between Canadian and Colombian producers.

“Colombia is a Latin American powerhouse when it comes to the development, production and export of audiovisual content,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “This new agreement is well aligned with the CMF’s objective to establish constructive partnerships with funding agencies in Latin America’s growing markets. We are certain that Canadian producers will benefit enormously by turning their attention to Colombia in the search for codevelopment or coproduction opportunities.”

“With this new call for submissions, we are materializing a strategic alliance between MinTIC and Proimagenes to promote and strengthen audiovisual projects beyond the traditional filmmaking, and with experienced foreign partners like the Canada Media Fund,” said Claudia Triana, Director of Proimagenes Colombia.

Eligible projects must involve producers eligible under both organisations’ criteria. Projects will have to be created for digital platforms and will be meant to encourage knowledge-sharing, technology transfer and commercial potential.

The total amount of funding available through the Incentive is approximately CAD $300,000 with each part contributing half of the funds. The total maximum contribution for each project funded through the incentive shall be CAD $75,000. Funding will take the form of a non-repayable contribution.

Finding a codevelopment partner

Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this development incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website by clicking here. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.

How to apply

Projects will be evaluated and chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from the CMF and an external evaluation committee hired by Proimágenes Colombia. Recipients will be announced in August 2017.

All applications must comply with the guidelines for the Incentive which will be available on both the CMF website and Proimagenes site created specifically for this call. Click here to access the guidelines. Submissions will open on May 15 and will close on July 4, 2017.
