Canada and France launch new joint incentive for virtual and augmented reality projects

Toronto, May 24, 2023 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF), the Conseil régional Nouvelle Aquitaine, and the Conseil départemental de la Charente today announced a new incentive to fund the co-development and co-production of virtual and augmented reality projects between production companies established in Canada and France.

The total amount of funding available through the Canada–France Co-Development and Co-Production Incentive for Digital Media Projects is set at CAD 450,000 (approximately €300,000), with CAD 225,000 (approximately €150,000) contributed by the CMF, €50,000 (approximately CAD 75,000) by the Conseil départemental de la Charente, and €100,000 (approximately CAD 150,000) by the Conseil régional Nouvelle Aquitaine.

The maximum contribution for each project funded through the incentive is CAD 60,000 for co-development projects and CAD 150,000 for co-production projects.

Projects must satisfy all three funders' criteria to be eligible for funding, be developed for digital platforms, and be virtual or augmented reality works.

How to apply

Applicants must comply with the incentive's guidelines and provide the requested documents. Canadian applicants must submit a complete application via Dialogue.

The deadline to apply is June 15, 2023. Funding decisions will be announced in December 2023.

Projects will be evaluated and chosen by a committee comprised of representatives from the CMF and members of a selection committee representing the Conseil régional Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Conseil départemental de la Charente, according to the criteria detailed in the incentive's guidelines.

Finding an international partner

Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website by using the ‘Find a co-producer' tool. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.
