Canada and Northern Ireland reopen their co-development incentive

Toronto and Belfast, June 8, 2023 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Northern Ireland Screen (NIS) announced today the reopening of their funding incentive for the development of screen-based projects between Canadian and Northern Ireland producers.

Now in its sixth year, the Canada-Northern Ireland Co-development Incentive for Audiovisual Projects funds television projects in the drama, documentary, animation, entertainment, and education genres, or digital media content, including web series, video games, transmedia projects, and virtual or augmented reality.

The total amount of funding available through the incentive this year is set at 200,000 CAD (approximately 120,000 GBP), with each funder contributing about 100,000 CAD (approximately 60,000 GBP). The total maximum contribution for each project will be 50,000 CAD (approximately 30,000 GBP).

Since its inception, 21 projects have been funded through the Canada-Northern Ireland Co-development Incentive for Audiovisual Projects. Recipients of the funding include Masters of Magic, a children’s entertainment series from Hopskip Studios (NI) and Epic Story Media (Canada), TV drama Godley, from Village Films (NI) and Mattfilms (Canada), and animated project New Pixies, from Flickpix (NI) and Arcana Studio (Canada).

How to apply

All applications must comply with the guidelines for the incentive. The deadline to apply is September 8, 2023, and funding decisions will be announced in October.

Projects will be evaluated and chosen by representatives of the CMF and the NIS.

Finding an international partner

Producers interested in finding an international partner as part of this development incentive are invited to post a profile of their company on the CMF’s website. Profiles will be accessible to all, including potential partners from other countries.
