Canada-Ireland projects receive over $136K in funding
Toronto/Dublin, November 6, 2019 - The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) announced today an investment of over CAD$136,000 to support the co-development of audiovisual content under the Canada-Ireland Codevelopment Incentive for Audio-Visual Projects.
Three Canadian production companies will work with three Irish companies in the development of the following projects.
Project | Canadian Company | Irish Company | CMF ($CAD) | BAI (approx. $CAD) |
#IBelieveHer | Plausible Communications Corp. | Pembridge Film Prod. Ltd. | $14,700 | $29,000 |
Craic House | Cedar Island Films Inc. | O'Sullivan Prod. Ltd. | $25,804 | $20,500 |
Where the wild geese go | Stitch Media Ontario Inc. | El Zorrero Films | $25,000 | $21,700 |
Inspired by true events, #IBelieveHer reconstructs the testimonies of the so-called ‘Irish Rugby Rape Trial’ within the context of the media circus that divided a nation. Craic House is a 6-part half-hour comedy series about the trials and errors of life in one’s twenties–a time of experimentation, heartbreak, disaster, and delight. With a special focus on engaging kids, Where the wild geese go invites Irish and Canadian school children along for the ride as they explore the natural world via a truly unique multiplatform project.
To be eligible for funding, the selected projects were required to be intended for broadcast by eligible Canadian and Irish broadcasters, involving at least one Canadian producer and one Irish producer. The incentive funds television projects and digital media extensions of such television projects, which fulfill both the guidelines of the CMF and the objectives and themes of BAI’s Sound and Vision Scheme. Projects were evaluated and chosen by a selection committee composed of representatives from both funding organizations.
Including this round of funding, since 2016-2017, CMF and BAI have invested over CAD$589,000 in the codevelopment of 14 audiovisual projects.
