Canada Media Fund welcomes new appointments to the Board of Directors
Toronto, June 21, 2019 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announces the appointment of Barry Chapman and Gary Pizante to its Board of Directors, following the Annual Meeting of Members held earlier this week in Montréal.
As a Chartered Professional Accountant, Barry Chapman has over 30 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry at the executive level, extensive knowledge in regulatory affairs, mergers and acquisitions, as well as strategic and financial planning. He held the role of Vice President, Regulatory Affairs at Bell Canada between 1989 and 2017. He brings extensive corporate governance experience, having sat on numerous boards.
Based in Calgary, Gary Pizante has since 1988 held positions with increasing responsibility in the Canadian telecommunications, cable, and satellite business. He brings extensive experience in financial and economic analysis. Mr. Pizante was previously Vice President, Pricing and Analytics at Shaw Communications. He has a Master’s Degree in Economics from Michigan State University and a Master’s Degree in Communications from the University of Denver.
Barry Chapman and Gary Pizante succeed outgoing directors Dave McLennan and Rob Scarth. They join current directors Alain Cousineau, Chair, Board of Directors; Alison Clayton; Lori DeGraw; Guy Fournier; and Michael Schmalz.

The CMF Board of Directors is fully independent from management, its funders and any beneficiaries. Directors are appointed by two member organizations, the Canadian Coalition for Cultural Expression (CCCE), representing Canada’s cable, satellite and IPTV distributors and the Government of Canada, through the Department of Canadian Heritage.
