CMF invests over $18M in 31 interactive digital media projects
Toronto, September 7, 2023 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced today an investment of $18,486,758 in 31 Canadian interactive digital media projects. These projects will receive funding through three different programs under the CMF’s Experimental Stream—Innovation & Experimentation, Commercial Projects, and Prototyping.
Innovation & Experimentation Program
Projects funded through our Innovation & Experimentation Program are Canadian interactive digital media content and software applications that are innovative and leading-edge. In this first round of funding for fiscal 2023-2024, six projects will receive a total of $7,409,646. These are led by companies based in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta, and consist of five games and one web-based initiative.
Funding decisions were made by a jury of specialists composed of François Dominic Laramée, Paisley Smith, André Lauzon, Osama Dorias, Veronika Kvon, and Dr. Kris Alexander.
We are accepting applications for funding through the second round of the Innovation & Experimentation Program until September 14, 2023.
Commercial Projects Program
Our Commercial Projects Program funds projects that have a greater probability of commercial success. A total of $6,947,615 will be allocated to six projects through the first round of funding. The projects include five games and one in situ software application, and are led by companies based in Ontario and Quebec.
The projects submitted for funding under the Commercial Projects Program are evaluated based on their potential to attain stated commercial objectives, demonstrate business opportunity, and achieve profitability. Funding decisions were made by a jury composed of Jen Goertzen, Marie Mejerwall, Yat-Chi-Lau, Tina Merry, Stefan Grambart, and Sébastien Provencher.
Starting today and until September 29, 2023, we are accepting applications for funding through the second round of the Commercial Projects Program.
Our Prototyping Program allocates funding to projects at the early stages of building a product to demonstrate its intended functionalities and design. Through this round of funding, 19 projects will receive a total of $4,129,497 to experiment, test, and validate different concepts. These projects will be developed by companies established in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba.
We will be accepting applications for funding through the second round of the Prototyping Program starting September 29, 2023.
