CMF thanks Government of Canada for new funding contribution
Toronto, February 28, 2018 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) thanks the Government of Canada for its new funding to Canada’s creative industries. The details released in the recent Federal Budget are a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to support Canada’s creative sector, as recently expressed in Minister Joly’s Creative Canada Policy Framework.
In particular, the CMF welcomes the government’s announcement that it will provide additional funding to the CMF to help mitigate the decline in contributions from the Broadcast Distribution Undertakings. Specifically, the government has committed $172M over five years, starting with $15M in 2018–2019, $29M in 2019-2020 and $42.5M for the next three years.
“We are most appreciative of the government’s support for Canada’s content industry. This commitment will trigger further investments and jobs in the creative sector,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “We value the government’s trust in the CMF and the work we do to support Canada’s content sector.”
The government also announced additional funding over five years to support other programs administered by both Canadian Heritage and Innovation Science and Economic Development that will be impactful and advance Canada’s creative content ecosystem.
