CMF to invest over $10M in 23 projects led by Black and racialized creators
Toronto, September 13, 2024 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today announced an investment of $10,157,021 in the production of 23 audiovisual projects by production companies owned and controlled by Black and racialized individuals. This funding is allocated through our Program for Racialized Communities.
Of the 23 projects, 16 are in English. They include 11 documentaries, three projects for children and youth, and two dramas. The successful applicants are prodcos established in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and Manitoba. The total investment for the English-language projects is $6,717,021.
The seven French-language projects include four dramas and three documentaries. They are all led by companies established in Quebec and will receive a total of $3,440,000.

Projects submitted for funding were evaluated by a jury of industry professionals from Black and Racialized Communities. The jury tasked with assessing English-language applications was composed of Abdul Malik, Erica Meus-Saunders, Julie Hackett, Ravida Din, Ryan Logan, and Tristan Barrocks. The evaluation jury for French-language projects was made up of Anik Magny, Anthony Koka, Evangeline Kabuya, and Katia Morales.
The Program for Racialized Communities (PRC) recognizes the historic barriers members of Black and Racialized Communities face and is designed to support the growth of English- and French-language audiovisual production from companies owned and controlled by Black and Racialized individuals. A pilot program launched in the 2021-2022 fiscal year, the PRC is a regular CMF funding program since April 1, 2024.
