InnovaTV gives voice to emerging technologies and television industry experts

CMF adds another industry intelligence resource to its toolbox

Toronto, September 17, 2013 – Today the Canada Media Fund (CMF), in collaboration with Konrad Group, launched InnovaTV, a new online resource that takes an in-depth look at emerging technologies that enable producers to create TV content in new and innovative ways.

“Using video interviews and short blog articles, the site encourages television producers and broadcasters to share the variety of ways in which they can use the latest technologies to meet the growing demand for new digital content,” said CMF President and CEO, Valerie Creighton. “This new platform is the result of an industry initiative led by people working in television production and broadcasting on a daily basis. After meeting in Toronto in January 2013 to pool our knowledge and share our experiences, we all expressed an interest in pursuing these exchanges using an online tool. InnovaTV is the end result.”

InnovaTV, which already has 12 presentations on offer, provides developers, technologists and creators with a platform to share useful information on innovation and convergence in the television industry. Among the presentations already available, there are interviews on such topics as t-commerce (transactional interfaces related to digital TV content) and the influence of social networks on television consumption.

The CMF invites creators, producers and broadcasters wishing to submit content and ideas to email their proposals to the editorial committee at [email protected]

CMF Industry and Market Trends
The CMF monitors trends and the evolution of the industry to provide stakeholders and decision-makers with industry intelligence and recommendations on potential strategic orientations. The CMF Industry and Market Trends Department has been developing its well-known expertise and gathering industry intelligence in the fields of television and digital media since 2011.

The CMF is the presenter of three online resources that focus on topics at the forefront of the transformations that are affecting today’s digital television and media industry. In addition to InnovaTV, these resources include:

  • The Crowdfunding Microsite (in partnership with Nordicity), which is intended to help understand this new financing option in addition to offering a comprehensive directory of platforms accessible to Canadian project directors.
  • The TMC Resource Kit, which focuses on the study of transmedia, multiplatform and convergent projects through diverse case studies. This resource is the result of a research partnership with Screen Australia and is supported by the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA). The TMC Resource Kit was developed by Siobhan O’Flynn and Anthea Foyer.

All of these resources are part of an industry intelligence package supported by a network of expert collaborators using an editorial approach based on thorough high-quality analyses. Websites are updated on a regular basis to ensure the content they present is always current and relevant.
