National Audience Data Consortium lauches an industry survey
The Consortium continues its work to strengthen audience insights across Canada’s audiovisual sector
October 6, 2026 — The National Audience Data Consortium, comprised of the Canada Media Fund, CBC/Radio-Canada, the Indigenous Screen Office, the National Film Board of Canada, and Telefilm Canada, is moving into a new phase of its work to strengthen the Canadian audiovisual sector’s understanding of audiences and support a more coordinated approach to audience data and insights.
In this new phase, an online survey, conducted independently by Léger, will gather insights on current audience data practices, organizational capacity, available tools and sources. It will also explore the challenges and opportunities organizations encounter in accessing, analyzing and applying audience information.
Select professionals and organizations from across the Canadian audiovisual sector will be contacted directly by Léger beginning October 8th to participate in the survey. Participants will include representatives from areas such as production and creation, distribution, broadcasting, exhibition and festivals.
Since the creation of the Consortium in 2025, participating organizations have developed a shared vision and mission and begun mapping internal audience data resources, measurement tools and practices.
Audiences are increasingly central to how Canada’s audiovisual sector thinks about the creation, circulation and impact of Canadian content, both at home and internationally. Meaningful and accessible audience insights can help organizations better understand how audiences discover and engage with stories, support informed decision-making and strengthen the sector’s ability to respond to a rapidly evolving media environment.
Insights gathered through the survey will help ensure that the Consortium’s future work is informed by the experiences and realities of organizations across Canada’s audiovisual sector in relation to audience data.
The Consortium expects to share key findings from this work and provide a further update on its progress and next steps with the industry in early 2027.
