Two joint Canadian–Walloon projects awarded $599,000 in funding

Toronto (Canada) and Mons (Belgium), January 21, 2019 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Wallimage, the development fund for audiovisual content in Wallonia (Belgium), today announced $599,000 in funding to support the coproduction of two virtual reality projects under the Canada–Wallonia Digital Media Incentive for Multiplatform Projects.

For this fourth edition of the Canada–Wallonia matching fund, the two funding agencies joined with Pôle Media Grand Paris, which will act as the logistical partner supporting projects in the production phase.

Two Canadian production companies will work with two Walloon companies in developing the following projects:

Project Canadian Applicant Walloon Applicant CMF Wallimage
Marco Polo Go Round Item 7 Inc. Belga Productions $184,500 $115,000
-22.7 Les productions 55 inc Production 21 $115,000 $184,500

Marco Polo Go Round is a humorous, surrealistic love story. The user is invited to participate in a couple’s relationship as their world literally falls apart around them. The intimacy of the actors is captured through movement, creating poignant and detailed animated characters in a fully immersive environment.

-22.7°C offers a sensory and musical immersive experience in the Arctic Circle. Setting out to discover the Arctic, the user lives a creative experience in a harsh environment. Ears wide open, she explores all the sounds emanating from this grandiose natural setting and becomes fully aware of its fragility. This hybrid project combines immersive and theatrical technologies with innovative sound and music to provide any audience with a unique experience.

The projects submitted were evaluated in accordance with a set of eligibility criteria by a selection committee composed of representatives from the CMF and Wallimage in collaboration with Pôle Média Grand Paris.

Since the launch of the joint incentive with Wallimage in 2014, seven projects have received funding for an overall investment of close to $1.7 million. For more information about projects funded by the CMF, please consult the database of projects funded here.
