CMF investments spur record $1.93B in activity for Canadian screen sector in 2025–2026: Annual Report
Toronto, September 28, 2026 — The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today released Ripple Effect, our annual report for the 2025–2026 fiscal year. The report shows that the CMF invested $338.8M in 1,248 audiovisual and interactive digital media (IDM) projects, and an additional $6.7M in 103 industry initiatives designed to create opportunities and address critical needs in the industry. These investments fuelled $1.93B in industry activity and generated nearly 17,000 full-time equivalent jobs across the country.
“When you turn on the TV or boot up the game console and engage with the Indigenous and Canadian works the CMF is so proud to invest in, our impact is immediately clear,” says Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF. “But you can also trace our contributions through local economies: a documentary crew filling up a small hotel in the Yukon, a filming gear supplier investing in new equipment in St. John’s, a Calgary caterer keeping the set outside of town fed, or a Quebec City IT contractor wiring up a growing game studio's first office. Supporting Canadian stories means supporting both our narrative sovereignty and a patchwork of small businesses working behind the scenes. Our investments in Canadian creators and companies cause a ripple effect that you can track, economically and culturally, across the country.”
