CMF publishes its online 2012-2013 Annual Report

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) published today its online Annual Report for the 2012-2013 fiscal year which outlines its role in shaping Canada’s creative economy and digital landscape.

“Canadian audiovisual content continues to win awards and attract audiences in Canada and around the world. The CMF is pleased to play an active role in fostering, developing and promoting this highly creative industry and contributing to the growth of Canada’s digital economy,” says Valerie Creighton, President and CEO. “The overall CMF program budget dedicated to the creation of Canadian audiovisual content in 2012-2013 triggered more than $1.2B in production volume.”

As detailed in the Annual Report, the CMF provided $371.8M in funding to Canadian television and digital media projects in 2012-2013. A total of 489 television and related digital media productions were supported through its Convergent Stream and 85 innovative and interactive digital media projects through its Experimental Stream.

In addition to its financial support, the CMF also continued to provide valuable industry intelligence to its stakeholders. In 2012-2013, the CMF published nine research projects and white papers and launched TMC Resource Kit, an online resource.  The annual report also provides information on a number of CMF initiatives designed to promote the success of Canadian content, including the Canadaonscreen.ca website, international partnerships with events such as MIPCOM, where Canada was Country of Honour, and a regional promotion strategy.

The Annual Report provides a complete overview of the CMF’s activities throughout 2012-2013. It contains detailed information on funding results as well as data on the success of projects funded by the CMF in terms of audience, critical acclaim and international sales. The complete financial overview section includes the Independent Auditors' Report and Financial Statements.

The online Annual Report also has a feedback section, inviting visitors to the site to share their views and comments on the report. This valuable input will help shape the way the CMF reports on its activities.
