CMF commits $2M in early-stage development funding to 54 audiovisual projects

Toronto, January 24, 2024 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) today announced 54 projects selected for funding through our Early-Stage Development Program (ESDP). Now in its fifth year, the program allocates funding to TV series at the onset of the creative process to cover costs such as writing and scriptwriting, story editing, preliminary research, and more. At least 25 per cent of the program’s budget was reserved for Diverse Community Applicants.

The 40 English-language projects selected for funding include 27 dramas, six documentaries, and seven children and youth programs. Funding decisions were made by a jury of industry experts: Daniel Northway-Frank, Jess Murwin, John Gill, Kat Montagu, Kelly Lynne Ashton, and Pat Kelly.
