CMF invests $14.6M in 33 productions through Indigenous, English-language POV programs
Toronto, July 20, 2023 – The Canada Media Fund (CMF) will invest $14.6M in 33 productions through two of our selective programs—the Indigenous Program and the English-language Point-of-View (POV) Program.
Indigenous Program
We acknowledge the unique circumstances and barriers affecting Indigenous communities. Through our Indigenous Program, we deliver funding that specifically supports the growth of Indigenous production in Canada.
17 projects will receive a total of $8.9M in funding—14 documentary productions, two children’s and youth series, and one drama. These projects will be produced in Anishinaabemowin, Cree, Haida, Hul’qumi’num, Innu, Inuktitut, Michif, Mohawk, Nisga, Ojibway, Squamish, English, and French.
Applications for funding through this program were evaluated by a jury composed of individuals from Indigenous communities: Danielle Rochette, Jamie-Lee Reardon, Jerry Wolf, Jess Murwin, Oswald Michelin, Rachel Alouki-Labbe.
POV Program
The Point-of-View (POV) Program is designed to encourage one-off, point-of-view documentary production. 16 projects in English will receive a total of $5.7M in funding. Funding recipients this year are production companies established in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, and Manitoba. Since 2010, 221 projects have received a total of $59 million in funding through the English-language POV Program.
Funding decisions for the French-language portion of the program will be announced at a later date.
