Female Eye Film Festival names Valerie Creighton Honorary Maverick
Toronto, May 26, 2017 - The Female Eye Film Festival recently announced that Valerie Creighton, President and CEO of the Canada Media Fund, will be named Honorary Maverick at this year’s festival, held in Toronto between June 20 and 25, 2017. The festival also named Ann Marie Fleming, 2017 Honorary Director.
“Thank you to the Female Eye Film Festival for their exceptional work in showcasing the talented, independent women filmmakers who provide unique perspectives through the female eye. I am deeply touched and humbled by this recognition," said Valerie Creighton.
"The work to improve gender balance in Canada’s audiovisual industry is the purview of all of us. I’m enthusiastic by what we have set out to accomplish at the Canada Media Fund to achieve gender balance in CMF programs by 2020,” said Valerie Creighton, President and CEO, CMF.
“Most of all, I’m extremely proud and consistently amazed at the work, diligence and persistence of thousands of women in the industry, the filmmakers, producers, screenwriters and crew members who are changing the narrative and breaking through the glass ceiling. I’m especially hopeful by seeing the new generation of fearless women filmmakers who will tell our stories in the years to come,” she added.
The Female Eye Film Festival provides an exclusive showcase for Canadian and international independent women filmmakers and pays tribute to the best and the brightest the Canadian film and television industry has to offer. The festival features films from across Canada, the United States and 31 other countries.
