Outreach & Consultation Archives

In Fall 2023, the CMF held a series of consultation sessions (in-person and/or virtual) with industry stakeholders to discuss the CMF’s plans to begin updating elements of its existing funding model in 2024-2025.

The topic of discussion was the New Program Authorities unlocked by Canadian Heritage to initiate the modernization of the CMF.  Stakeholders had an opportunity to provide feedback through the lens of ongoing industry disruption, advancing diversity and inclusion, and pending regulatory change.

After each consultation session, all industry stakeholders were invited to provide their feedback by sending a written submission to [email protected].

Thanks to all those who participated in the Canada Media Fund’s 2021 consultation process. The resulting Spark Courage: What We Heard report outlines the key items that were suggested and discussed throughout this consultation process.

We launched the consultations on March 11 with the publication of a Discussion Paper and an invitation to the industry to participate and inform our thinking about a growth strategy for the screen sector and a new program model for the CMF. We heard from more than 1,000 of you from all across the country. Your feedback will help the CMF evolve and continue to support Canada’s creativity.

In an effort to present viable and impactful solutions to some of the issues affecting stakeholders, the CMF conducts a series of working groups with industry stakeholders. These sessions allow participants and CMF staff to delve more deeply into specific, program-related issues.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) embarks on a cross-country consultation as part of a comprehensive consultation process. The process comprises a number of components, including focus groups in 18 cities (in all provinces and territories) and industry working groups.

During the focus groups, all CMF stakeholders have an opportunity to consider how significant shifts in content consumption habits, rapidly evolving market conditions and regulatory changes as a result of the CRTC’s Let’s Talk TV proceeding impact the CMF’s funding programs.

Feedback received from stakeholders contributes to shaping CMF policy and programs for 2016-2017 and beyond.

The CMF reviewed its Accounting and Reporting Requirements (ARR) and added valuable information and examples related to accounting reporting required by all CMF applicants. Intended for producers, their accounting specialists and their accounting firms, the webcast provided an overview of important highlights of this procedure.

The ARR presents the guidelines established by the CMF with respect to the accounting and reporting of project costs with particular regard to the preparation of final cost reports and final certified activity cost statements.

The revised ARR are available in: Appendix B 2014 2015
