Lights, Camera, Inclusion S3E1: Rennata Lopez & Georgina Lopez

The pair discusses authentic representation, unscripted storytelling, and children’s natural empathy and curiosity.

For this first episode, Now & Next’s Lead Editor Gaëlle Essoo is joined by twin sisters Rennata Lopez and Georgina Lopez, both executive producers and cofounders of Lopii Productions. The pair founded the company in 2018, with the objective of creating shows that allow every child to see themselves on TV. They focus on stories being told authentically, with as much diversity behind as in front of the camera.

In this interview, Rennata and Georgina Lopez discuss how they developed their focus on diverse and inclusive children's content. Initially hesitant to work together due to their identities as identical twins, they eventually merged forces and founded Lopii in 2018.

Their goal is to provide authentic representation of diverse communities, including cultural, economic, and religious backgrounds, as well as disability representation. One of their core mandates is that "Diversity isn't just a checkbox—it’s about real representation that speaks to every kid’s reality."

The sisters also believe that diverse content can be both meaningful and commercial, as they’ve seen time and again the strong demand from audiences for such programming. “I hope that broadcasters and funders just recognize that [diversity] can be commercial too, because that’s the audience that is dying for this content. They really want to watch it,” says Georgina.

Lopii strives to give space to underrepresented communities both on and off the screen, ensuring true diversity in their storytelling. A key highlight is their unscripted content, which allows children to share their stories in their own words, creating sincere and impactful narratives.
